Sorry, you write a very well worded question and it looks very much like homework study material. People post those all the time. Since this is not homework I would answer the questions as follows:

  1. If the worker is self employed what the boss pays him is probably based on a per job amount instead of how much work he actually does. But based on your figures, if I was the boss and paying by the hour I would pay him for 8.5 hours of labor.
  2. Same as above: but 1.5 hours non labor (break time and drive to and from work)
  3. False for to and from work
  4. False
  5. No except, obviously, the take home would be minus the FICA and other withholdings.
  6. None then the usual self employed client issues, keeping good records, etc. From the bosses standpoint of course keeping good mileage and expense records as well as proper determination of whether the other person is actually self employed or actually an employee.

Sounds like homework to me! If this is not homework for a class and just a very well written question, let me know. If this is homework, no fair getting someone else to answer your questions. lol
